Review: Flawless - Sara Shepard

Date published: 03/13/07
Publisher: Harper Teen.
Pages: 330.
Synopsis.
Spencer stole her sister's boyfriend. Aria is brokenhearted over her English teacher. Emily likes her new friend Maya . . . as much more than a friend. Hanna's obsession with looking flawless is making her sick. And their most horrible secret yet is so scandalous that the truth would ruin them forever.
And why shouldn't I tell? They deserve to lose it all. With every crumpled note, wicked IM, and vindictive text message I send, I'll be taking these pretty little liars down. Trust me, I've got enough dirt to bury them alive.                                                     .

My Review.
I went into Flawless with a little bit of hesitation because of all the hype there was about it. I've seen the show on television and didn't like it that much. I felt like everyday was a repetition of the previous one. A. stalking the girls and threatening them, the girls being scared and keeping secrets ... The plot seemed a little inconsistent at times. Overall, it's like a small town (takes place in Rosewood, Pennsylvania) version of gossip girl (which takes place in New York city). We don't know much about the characters and although their stories are supposed to unravel as you turn the pages, at the end of the second book, we're still eft with very little information about the four girls. Everything seems to revolve around looks and boys. It wasn't a page turner to me but you might like it. I still want to give the sequels a try, maybe the third, fourth etc books are a bit better. I feel sorry that I don't have anything positive to say about the book, but this is an honest review.

Review: Fragile Eternity - Melissa Marr.

Date pub.: 08/21/09
Publisher: Harper Collins
Pages:
389

/!\ May contain spoilers if you haven't read the previous books.

Synopsis.                                                                                                                        All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange author Melissa Marr delivers another little masterpiece of Urban Faery, that budding subgenre. In this ethereal romance, Aislinn has achieved the fragile eternity of the title; she has become an immortal faery, complicating both her life and that of Seth, the man who loves her.

My Review.
I had really high expectations for this book, having loved the previous one. In the third book of Melissa's series, Aislinn is having such a hard time distinguishing her true feelings from the ones caused my the faerie bound between her & Keenan. To me, Seth is still as perfect as he always was. We don't know that much about him, but his love for Ash is undeniable. While Ash is trying to conceal her two worlds, Seth realizes it's not possible and wants to enter her world, in order to do that, he'll have to become a faerie ... The plot unravels gradually - but quickly - and it's a good thing because we're already caught up in a love triangle (or rather, quadrangle?) and the war that might explode in Faerie. It's hard not to get lost in everything that's happening but thankfully Melissa did a good job at explaining things, so that we could keep up with the fast paced book. This book is definitely dark and entertaining. I wish Leslie was back in the story though, I still haven't read Radiant Shadows but I do hope she'll make a come back soon enough. She was my favorite character. Melissa is definitely an inspired/inspiring woman!

In order to find him, she entrusts her life to Stefan's brother, Damon Salvatore who wants Elena, body and soul. Along with her childhood friend Matt, they set out for the slums of the Dark Dimension, where Stefan is being held captive. It is rumored to be a world where vampires and demons roam free, but humans must live enslaved to their supernatural masters. . . .
Elena will stop at nothing to free Stefan. Yet with each passing day the tension between Elena and Damon grows, and she is faced with a terrible decision: Which brother does she really want?
Back in Fell's Church, Bonnie and Meredith have made some dire discoveries. They hastily try to follow Elena and warn her—only to be caught up in Elena's most dangerous adventure yet.

My Review.
First of all ... Kudos to Miss Smith. This book is crazy. It's amazing. If you've read the series so far, Shadow souls is the best one. Nightfall was already such an amazing book, so many things happened, supernatural creatures we had never heard of made the appearance, and nothing's normal anymore. The author has an incredible imagination. Everything's perfect, the details, the name of the demons, the places, the characters ... I'm speechless. It's impossible to tell you everything that happens in Shadow souls because so many things happen at such a fast pace. You will never get bored, that's for sure. Elena is fierce and so are her best friends, we discover a whole new side of Damon and new characters are introduced. Just ... go get it now, you won't regret it! Oh and ... there's the worst cliff hanger in the end. ;) I anxiously await the sequel.

Review: The Hollow - Jessica Verday

Date pub.: 09/01/09
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Pages: 513

Synopsis.

When Abbey’s best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead. Abbey has never felt so desperately alone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen’s funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey’s life.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend.                                   As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen’s betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

My Review.
I know a lot of people didn't enjoy this book, but I really did. The Hollow is  a very mysterious book, and yes, the plot is kind of inconsistent at times. Some things happen and you wonder how-why, they happen. Abbey is broken and I think that's why she doesn't realize in the beginning how strange Caspian, and the whole situation really is. She doesn't really pay attention to what's really happening because she's still recovering from losing her best friend, Kristen. I love how Caspian deeply cares for her, and how passionate she is about the history of her town and her perfume making.  She believes in her dreams and she wants to get better, which is a great quality in a heroine. I could relate to her and I love that, a fictional character got  me into making perfumes ... I think that says a lot. I think Jessica Verday has a lot of potential and after all this was her debut novel. I really want to read The haunted (the sequel). It's pretty easy to read and we aren't given many details and for that, I can't give it more than three little hearts, but this books still means a lot to me, I liked it regardless.
